The United Nations (UN) has launched a major appeal for humanitarian aid in 2026. The organization is asking for help from the global community to save the lives of millions of people suffering due to wars, climate disasters, and pandemics around the world.

The Goal & Need: The UN needs $23 billion (billion dollars) immediately to reach 87 million of the most vulnerable people with life-saving help.

Most Serious Crises: The biggest needs right now are in areas like Gaza, Sudan, and Syria, where millions are displaced and facing starvation. In Sudan alone, over 20 million people need help in the world’s largest displacement crisis.

Military & Aid: Many countries’ armies (like India’s ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’) play a key role in these efforts, helping to deliver aid and evacuate people safely.

A Call for Humanity: The UN Humanitarian Aid Chief, Tom Fletcher, said this appeal is focused on saving every single life. He asked for just over 1% of the $2.7 trillion spent on global defense last year.
